Fr. Hilary Conti, O.S.B. and Fr. Theophilus Gregori, O.S.B. took that task seriously. To their young minds that devotion would be more meaningful if based on the 'true image of the Face of Jesus" taken from the Holy Shroud. The Holy Shroud became their tool in spreading that devotion. The Holy Shroud became the living word of Jesus Crucified as He wants us to remember Him at the moment of our redemption.
In gratitude and admiration to the Ven. Abbot Hildebrand Gregori, O.S.B. we dedicate this booklet to his memory. He taught us by example as well as by words how to pray and work for the glory of God; to see on the Holy Shroud the sanctifying power of suffering; to see on the Holy Face of Jesus the greatest solicitation of love; to learn from Jesus, who became obedient even unto death, death on the Cross, that the best and the shortest way to the Father is by the labor of obedience. He has been the soul of the apostolate of this Monastery of the Holy Face of Jesus. We admire and love him as our spiritual Father.
To all friends and readers we ask a prayer that this holy Benedictine Monk may one day see the glory of the Altars.
